Welcome to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Thamarrurr Catholic College

Our College was founded by the Daughters of the Sacred Heart, and proudly holds the motto, “May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be everywhere loved, forever”. Our Catholic values permeate our every action – not simply in our formal Religious Education lessons, but in how we treat each other and our engagement in the liturgical life of the school.

Being the only school in the Wadeye region, we hold a special place in the hearts of the local community who always remain connected to our college and parish.

We support young parents in our Family as First Teachers (FaFT) unit, and additionally provide education for children from Preschool, through to Year 12. We follow the Australian and SACE Curriculums with our students working towards graduating with a Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training. We offer a range of VET courses including Bee Keeping to our senior students. Our Secondary students engage in our Learning on Country program, connecting with Traditional Owners and local Rangers to learn more about their culture and traditions.

We are a bilingual college, proudly supporting our students in learning in both Murrinhpatha and English. This is supported by a staff comprising both locals and non-locals. I am blessed in my role as Principal to be guided in local matters by our Catholic Aboriginal Leadership Team. I refer to these wonderful ladies, well respected in community, as my Kardu Pek Pek Marda (Guardian Angels).

Throughout the year, opportunity allows for student and staff engagement in the rich traditional ceremonies of the local Kardu Diminin people.

Despite the many challenges faced by our community, we aim for our college to be a safe and welcoming place where our students are afforded the wonderful opportunities deserved by all Australian children.

The remote experience is often time limited by personal circumstance and consequently staffing is a continual process. I seek to staff our school with the highest quality professionals. If you feel you could contribute to our community, I welcome your communication.

Peace in Christ

Mr Daniel Gubby (MEdLead, MRE, BEd -LOTE)
